I was born in a small community in Philadelphia, PA. The neighborhood was known as
"Bridesburg". I lived a few doors away from"Fire House"; as we called it then! ENGINE 33 became my Family and I would go there everyday and sit on their
bench at the fire house. The fire fighters were like BIG BROTHERS to me at that period in my life. Today I am the North American Coordinator for the International Fire Fighters
WHAT IS INTERNATIONAL FIRE FIGHTERS DAY (IFFD)
IFFD is a celebration for all Fire Fighters who gave their life for a friend and those who continue in their HEROIC FOOTSTEPS!
In December 1998, Lt. JJ Edmondson lost 5 of her friends who gave their lives for others. She promised them, we would have a day to celebrate the
memories of all Fire Fighters and those who continue in there HEROIC cause.
WHY MAY 4th for INTERNATIONAL FIRE FIGHTERS DAY?
Europe has celebrated May 4th as Fire Fighters day for 150 years. So, May 4th was chosen as: INTERNATIONAL FIRE FIGHTERS DAY!
WHY NOT 9/11 ?
September 11 is a day of sorrow. The United States remembers many that day. It is NOT a day to Celebrate!
WHY AM I DOING THIS?
I believe and feel that Fire Fighters have earned their day and we owe this to them. On this day we should give them the honor, thanks, and respect due
them for all they have done and continue to do for all of us.
WHAT ARE WE DOING ON MAY 4th?
On May 4, 2003, stations representing 20 states sounded their sirens for 30 seconds at noon. When the sirens sounded in Doylestown, PA, I cheered for
our firefighters! Some communities had additional celebrations following our noon tribute. On May 4, 2004 we would like to add more stations to SOUND THEIR SIRENS! We also want to encourage
community participation. Some ideas: Get a horn and, at noon, take a deep breath and BLOW YOUR HORN on May 4, 2004! Send a thank you note to your local fire station. Help spread the
word. Leave your suggestions in our discussion forum.
WHAT AM I DOING AND WHAT CAN YOU DO?
I have designed flyers and written dedications to help promote IFFD, and will send these items to you free of charge. I ask nothing in return, except
your commitment to help make this a GREAT DAY FOR OUR FIRE FIGHTERS and honor the true meaning of this tribute. Just tell me who and where to send the package by joining our growing
mailing list to honor these brave souls. To receive your package click here. If you would like further information or wish to learn more,
